The simple design of the oval locket hides a touch of mystery and glamour. Whether a plain gold locket or a locket etched with ornate patterns, flowers or words, the oval locket is extremely popular with adults and children alike. Similar to the heart locket, the oval locket is hinged and can store one or more photos in separate compartments. Oval lockets are particularly popular to store family photos which are easy to insert and can be stored safely in the locket day and night.

Lockets Tip: Care for your locket by cleaning it regularly with a non-abrasive soft cloth. Most lockets have some water resistance however ensure your locket is tightly closed before it gets wet.

Locket Photos
No locket is complete without something inside it. Locks of hair, perfume and notes can be concealed within the folding wings. The most popular use for lockets is storing photographs and precious memories of loved ones and happy times shared together. If your photo isn’t the right size, simply resize it on your computer or using a local print shop. Some lockets have extra compartments to store several photos. Single or double compartments are the most popular as they will store the photo of a loved one, or photos of a couple, or even extended family and pets.

Lockets As Gifts
It doesn’t have to be for Mothers Day, her birthday or Christmas, giving a locket engraved with the timeless words of “Mum”, “Grandmother”, “Sister” or “Daughter” and perhaps a family photo is a gift she will treasure for life. Both gold lockets and silver lockets are available at affordable prices and come with necklaces or chains so that they can be worn close to the heart. Lockets make wonderful engagement and anniversary presents that can be shared by a couple.

Engrave Your Locket
When choosing a locket as a gift, consider engraving the locket with a personal message, religious text, their name, initials or a significant date. Many High Street and online lockets come with special words already engraved. Or, ask at your local jewellers for engraving services to ensure your locket displays the message you want.

Lockets Tip: In case your locket is lost or damaged, always try to keep a copy of your original photos, for example on your computer, so that they can be replaced if necessary.

Locket Necklace or Locket Bracelet
Whilst most lockets are worn on chains or necklaces around the neck, they can also be attached to anklets or wrist bands such as bangles or bracelets. Wearing a locket on a bracelet gives men as well as women the opportunity to wear a locket more discretely than a locket worn around the neck. Locket bracelets are also practical for men and women at work and at leisure, for example when swimming, as wearing a bracelet with a small locket enables means that you can keep your loved one close at all times.

Locket Accessories
When choosing the necklace, bracelet or bangle to accompany your locket, choose a complementary metal. For example, if you have a gold locket, choose a matching gold chain. Or if you have a silver, platinum, white gold or titanium locket, a silver chain will be the perfect match. Most lockets come with matching chains, however if you would like a different chain or a chain that is longer or shorter, this can be purchased separately.

Lockets Tip:  If you have inherited an antique locket, you may need to add a tiny drop of lubricant to the hinges if they have become stiff with age. Looked after properly, your locket will last a lifetime and beyond.
